Duane Thorin with Rob Sandiford and the Hootenanny Gang WAIL on "Midnight Special"

August of 2013 saw Duane Thorin in fine fettle and fine voice. The interplay between him and Rob Sandiford is magic, with everyone else supporting a fine "Midnight Special" evening at The Urban Homestead in Pasadena on a Hootenanny night. Look ma, no microphones! No sound system! Real organic food and music. Watch out! You could be singing next!

Surprise! Tom Feher Wrote and Sings a Song about Duane at The Urban Homestead Hootenanny

Another WayBack Video!  In this case Tom Feher surprised Duane Thorin by singing a song about "Duanio" to him.  Not much more to say.

WayBack in 2013 This Youtube of Duane Thorin has great SOUND

Way back in June of 2013, Duane Thorin did a show at The Secret Rose Theater in North Hollywood with Raspin Stuwart. We worked really hard at making sure the sound was really fine. A very nice Ear Trumpet Labs microphone and a Bose PA was utilized and the musicians were great. Make sure you listen through good speakers or headphones/earbuds.

My Latest Duane Thorin YouTube Upload

One of the great arrangements Duane did was of the song, "What's Going On".  This is one of his early performances with Michael Puccini way back in 2009.  They hadn't gotten it all smoothed out yet, but their interaction on stage is precious.

"Somebody Sing Me A Song" by Duane Thorin

Duane wrote this song a long time ago, certainly long before I met him.  "Somebody Sing Me A Song" would just occasionally pop out of him.  Here he is performing at The Coffee Gallery at the Open Mic he used to host from about 2009-11.  It looks like he is playing Jim Barille's guitar for a change.  Jim is very protective of that guitar.
This also shows the lovely stage built by Dave Ray for this cubby of The Coffee Gallery, so we had a "Stage" set aside for events that happened in the front window. We used to call this space and the events that happened there the "Frontstage" as opposed to the "Backstage", which was and is still happening in the back through a special door by Bob Stane.

"The Toast" to Duane Thorin back in 2010

Duane knew a lot of songs that were written and/or performed by many of the acts that he saw when he worked at The Ice House in Pasadena, or The Coffee Gallery in Altadena.  This song was written by Gary White, best known for writing "Long Long Time".  Too bad Duane seldom did the song.
